A tale of wine and shoes

Now this is a trend I would like to encourage!

The owners of a retail establishment have a friend who also is a friend of mine. And that friend convinces the retailers to open their store late one evening and she provides wine and nibbles and invites her buddies (including me) in for some shopping and sipping. And the shoppers get a 15 percent discount on anything they buy that night. Doesn’t that sound like a classic win-win?

It seemed that way last night at Sole in the City, a cute little shoe boutique in the Bearden area that’s been open about 2-1/2 years.

The owners are Betty Copeland and Debbi Cuningham. The mutual friend is Katie Kline. The theme for the blustery evening: boots! Come along.

Yay! I'm in the right place.

Michelle Hardin got right in the spirit: a boot in one hand and a glass of wine in the other.

We learned a few secrets. One woman said she had promised her husband that whenever she buys a new pair of shoes, she will get rid of an old pair. “But I didn’t say WHEN I would give the old pair away,” she allowed.

Not everyone was focused on footwear, though.

Overheard at one point: “Is it OK if a man comes?” Answer: “It depends on the man.” Response: “He’s paying for the shoes. ” Answer: “He can come.”

So was Michelle: “It’s my personal best! Four pair!”

Almost everyone bought something. Not bad for an hour and a half.
