Christmas in October: OK by me! Honest!

On Tuesday, I noticed the Christmas wreaths on Gay Street.

On Tuesday, I noticed the Christmas wreaths on Gay Street.

It started on Tuesday when I came to work at our new office in the historic Miller’s Building at 445 S. Gay Street. I noticed the city had placed Christmas wreaths on the light poles. So I placed a message on Twitter and Facebook: “Wah? Christmas wreaths on Gay Street? Really?”

Apparently I wasn’t the only one who noticed. My friends at the city said they’d gotten calls beginning the night before and the calls continued all day Tuesday. They explained that they were doing a little test to see if the wreaths would look just as good if they were placed on every other pole this year instead of every single pole. If the experiment were a success, the decorations would be stretched out further and maybe even cover the Old City and the newly re-opened 100 block of Gay Street. The city folks assured that the wreaths would be coming down after the test. Everybody got a little chuckle out of all the commotion. Ha ha.

Then, Tuesday night, while walking back to our condo on Church Avenue from a friend’s house at Ryan’s Row on Vine Avenue, Alan and I noticed that the Christmas lights wrapped around trees on Summit Hill Drive were turned on. “All right, already!” I posted on Twitter and Facebook. “First the wreaths and now the lights! I’ll try to get in the Christmas spirit.”

Christmas lights were brightly shining on Tuesday, Oct. 12, on Summit Hill Drive.

Last night, we attended a sweet little fundraiser for the group, “Friends of Tennessee’s Babies with Special Needs” at The Foundry. One of the auction items was a Christmas special and the hype for the item featured a real Santa riding one of those cute little scooters the Zingo folks will use to transport you home from a party if you have too much to drink. I couldn’t wait to post a comment on Twitter and Facebook along with a picture of Santa on the scooter. “Why is this happening 2 me?” I asked. “First it’s wreaths, then Xmas lights, now this!”

I was starting to feel like some kind of Christmas curse was following me around. And my Twitter and Facebook “friends” must have decided to pile on. Because today a REINDEER showed up at my office bearing Christmas flowers and another dang wreath!

This thing about scared our front desk person to death when it showed up in our office today. The guard says the Miller's Building needs to institute a "wildlife policy."

So, for the record, I GIVE UP! I will celebrate Christmas all year long if you, the powers that be, want me to! Bring it on! Ho, ho, ho! Deck the halls!

We give! Alan places a wreath on the Moxley Carmichael door. Merry, merry, everybody!

Yes, it was quite a surprise to see a reindeer standing outside my office door. Alan didn’t quite know what to do with it or its’ gifts, so he brought the reindeer to me! Merry Christmas to all… (I’m not going against the grain here) Ha!

I am glad you finally got with the spirit and avoided the trap of “seasonilsm,,” a close cousin of nihilism (one of the very worst isms around, in there with the unmentionable isms practiced by Hugo Chavez himself.

LOL. If you’re going to bow to pressure, at least make sure it’s a Christmas “bow.”
