Despite the best work of more than a dozen talented interior designers, the most striking feature of the two condos that make up the 2010 Knoxville Symphony League Showhouse project is the view.

From the front, the two condos located in the Rocky Hill area of west Knoxville have a spectacular view of the Cumberland Mountains. From the back, it’s Mount LeConte. The addresses reflect this fact: 1436 and 1442 LeConte Vista Way.

You just can’t compete with Mother Nature.

The Showhouse is more than just a home tour. Luncheons are available at The Summit Cafe, which is open on-site Monday through Saturday from 11 until 2. And unique merchandise – much of it music-themed – can be purchased from the Symphony Gift Shop, open daily.

Where else can you get such a great combination? The Showhouse is open through April 25. Admission is just $15. Special group tours are available and more information can be found at the Symphony League’s Web site.

The League decided to take a different approach this year and rather than decorate one huge mansion, as is the usual practice, they selected two more modest condominiums and asked the decorators to treat one with a traditional theme and the other with a contemporary look.  Interesting.

Stacy Moody is president of the Knoxville Symphony League. Loretta Crowder and Sondra Nanney are chairs of the Showhouse project. The News Sentinel is the presenting sponsor.

We attended the preview party last week and here’s some of what we saw.

Billie Shelby finds the only available spot to sit down to enjoy her snack. Don't worry, we won't tell! This is the piano in the traditionally decorated condo.

This was a nice touch. A silhouette of Maestro Lucas Richman adorned a table in the music loft of the contemporary condo.

I loved what I heard one woman say as she contemplated this display in the little girl's room of the contemporary condo: "If you raised your daughter in this room, would you be able to stand her by the time she was 13?"
