“Tennessee Shines” looking to go national

I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to attend a “Tennessee Shines” concert at the Bijou Theatre, but I finally did this week (thanks to my friend Fiona McAnally) and I hope I never miss another one!

Featured entertainment Wednesday was the cajun band Beausoleil avec Michael Doucet and they were lively fun, of course. But what makes the evening so appealing is the combination of a charming host, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Jim Lauderdale, the house band which holds the evening together, the coziness of the historic Bijou and the general good nature of the diverse audience. The shows are broadcast live on WDVX-FM and recorded for television

Good news from WDVX General Manager Tony Lawson and Cornerstone Foundation CEO Laurens Tullock Wednesday was that plans are moving forward to take this show national. They are actively seeking a national sponsor and have had conversations with super-powerful radio station WSM in Nashville about the specifics. So stay tuned.

Tennessee Shines is held the last Wednesday of every month. These photos were taken by Knoxville’s favorite celebrity photographer Eric Smith. (Thanks, Eric!)
