OK. Here’s the deal.
My friends and I have been the judges (note: anybody can be a judge!) in the past three Market Mixer contests. These are the rules: on the third Saturday of every month, the good folks at the Market Square Farmers’ Market select an ingredient, distribute it to local restaurants, and challenge [...]

The Fall Festival at the Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum was an absolute delight Oct. 16. And this is coming from a person who doesn’t have a garden (or even a yard anymore), is not comfortable around large animals (which were there), and not all that crazy about kids! So imagine how much YOU would [...]

Ten thousand guests. Eleven hundred pounds of barbecued pork. Two thousand pounds of fried chicken.
Bluegrass music. Patriotic music. Old rock-and-roll. New rock-and-roll. And the Pride of the Southland Marching Band.

Guess what’s in my near future! I’m going on a guided tour of Old Gray Cemetery with “spirited” beverages with nine of my favorite people. I’m also going on a walking tour based on historic postcards and a progressive cocktail supper in downtown Knoxville with 11 other folks.
How did I get these fantastic opportunities? I [...]

On a cold night in January of 2005, festivities for the grand re-opening of the historic Tennessee Theatre were about to start. The ”grand entertainment palace,” as it was nicknamed, had just undergone a $25.5 million renovation and I found myself standing beside Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam in the back of the darkened theater just before the doors [...]

One of the best things about Knoxville is the fact that we have four seasons. Everybody says that. The Knoxville Chamber even puts it in their marketing materials. One great place to watch the seasons change is in the heart of downtown — at the Market Square Farmers’ Market.

In addition to adding solar panels to its roof and focusing on recyling (15 tons last year), the Knoxville Convention Center also is bringing sustainability to its dining tables. To demonstrate its growing commitment to locally and sustainably produced food, Mary Bogert, the center’s executive director, hosted a chef’s table Thursday for a few of the Convention Center’s [...]
