Market Square: THE place to be on the weekends

Kids and grownups alike were enthralled by the giant bubbles this guy was making in the grassy area of Market Square on Saturday.

Many of us have been on Market Square all winter long - and have loved it!

But there is something extra magical that happens to Market Square when spring is in the air. Like this weekend.

The Dogwood Arts Festival was having its Chalk Walk art contest. The Market Square Farmers’ Market, which officially opens on May 1, was having kind of a soft opening, I guess. And plenty of other folks - with kids and dogs in tow - just seemed to want to stroll around and socialize.

Here’s a peek:

Mary Ann Rickerman staffed a bread booth I could not resist! Bread was baked by Rick Rickerman of Cheesecakes by Rick. "I guess it should be Cheesecakes and Bread by Rick," he quipped.

Later in the season, Mountain Meadows Farm will be among the largest booths at the Market Square Farmers' Market. But today, all Shannon Meadows had to sell was bok choy. I bought some.

Strange's Honey Farm in Del Rio had a bright booth. I loved the bees on the tablecloth!

10-year-old Meiling Finn came in 3rd place in the student chalk drawing contest last year. She has been working on her technique all year.

John E. Walker had a piano out on Market Square in front of Market Square Kitchen. He let passing children join him at the keyboard. He specializes in piano moving and tuning. Interesting marketing tactic!
